Dutch School, born Utrecht 1893-Amsterdam 1976“Coastal landscape in Bretagne (France)”. Gouache, oil on paper, behind glass, dating around 1920 and in most beautiful condition. The painting is well signed. The size of the gouache itself is 25x18 inches, the total size is 31x26inches. A most wonderful painting by a very sought after painter. Jos Rovers lived and worked in Haarlem, Antwerp, France and since 1930 in Amsterdam, studied at the Art Academy of Antwerp in Belgium and studied with Isidore Opsomer in Belgium and became well known for is excellent landscapes, city views, still lives and nudes. For his extraordinary talent he received the Royal Subvention, in 1939 the St. Lucas medal and in 1955 the Silver Medal of the City of Paris in France. Further he was a member, and between 1946-1948 and in 1963 Chairman, of the Art Society Arti et Amicitiae and of St. Lucas in Amsterdam. He taught N. André de la Porte, J. Batterman, W. Bos, J.H. Brolsma, B.J. Brugman, W. Burger, A.J.J. Gool, J. Korthals, G.P. Koster, E.J. Niemer, CFh.J.M. Kruijmel, H.V.J.E.Nypels, W. Ooms, M.J.C. Ottenhof, L.A.P. Rempt, M. Rompelman and many others.
