Dutch School. Middelburg 1850-Loosduinen 1929Magnificent impressionistic painting “Port de Carqueiranne near Nice in France”. Oil on mahogany panel, signed in the lower left corner and signed and twice annotated at the back of the panel. Also in verso 6 seals by a previous collector. A gordious painting and most beautiful painting of excellent quality, only a bit of craquele. The size of the panel is 18.2x13.6 inches and the painting is well framed. Jan Jacob Lodewijk ten Kate was a student of the Dutch painters P.C.Greive, H.F.C. ten Kate and after that he studied at the Art Acdemy of Munich in Germany. He lived and worked in The Hague (1873-1875), Amsterdam 1875, Munich until 1890 ( he made a trip to Switzerland in 1880), Epe until 1900, Valkenburg until 1901, Antwerp in Belgium until 1903, Brussel in Belgium until 1906, after that he lived in Paris, The Hague, Nice in France and Bloemendaal. A most gifted impressionist painter of landscape and sea views, but he also painted genre pieces and portraits. Exhibitions in Amstrdam. The Hague, Groningen, Paris, Antwerp and Brussel.
